Back on the slopes of Etna in Milo, Sicily, the 2025 Sciara edition awakens the ancient volcanic flows. The solidified eruptions become the foundation, guiding a scenography that honours the mountain’s memory through integration of light, sound and land.
The day and night stages are split in location. Trees offer shade from the sun and in the night the open space invites movement across the cooled lava, blending festival rhythm with geological time.
The Ballroom stage blends into the forest by day, a simple wooden grid lays over the steel poles, harmonised with falling leaves, chestnuts and stones. The rhythm is relaxed during day, with the trees offering shade against the Sicilian sun. At night the structure appears to float. Together with tree-strapped lights at the same height the scenography forms a shifting ceiling of light. The lights work in slow transitions and gradients, breathing with the trees and music. Hung stones around the stage structure and dance floor invite play, joining the forest rhythm.
Punto Base reuses the triangular structure from the Hedera edition. An altered roof opens toward the view, allowing air and light to move the fabric. In the night the stage is dynamic and dramatic. The booth, crafted from earth and fabric, mirrors Etna’s forms, with light beaming through the soil. The color tones of the scenography draw from the black volcanic soil, the heavy stones and bright magma contrasts. In the background the eruptions of Etna are visible, she’s excited to join the festival again.
The scenography is fully demountable and reusable, ready for Etna’s next cycle.
